Child Dedication
What the Bible says about dedicating children...
Child dedication is not specifically commanded in the Bible, but we do have an example of the practice in the Old Testament story of Hannah. After her son was born, Hannah took the child to the temple, before the priest. There she declared, "For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord." (I Sam.1:27,28)

Dedication honors God and strengthens commitment through the dynamics of public vows. Its focus is consistent with all the Bible teaches regarding children and parenting. It serves as a reminder to parents and church alike.

It is vitally important to remember that the act of dedication does not produce a faith relationship with Christ. That doesn’t commence until a child personally responds to the gracious invitation of God. Although it is vitally important to pray for a child’s salvation and commit ourselves to godly influence, we cannot bestow salvation by means of ceremony.

If you would like to have your child or baby dedicated to the Lord, please contact Pastor Jim at Jim@thePineschurch.org.
